sorry, but your baby is just an excuse you're making not to excersize. There is plenty you can do in the company of your baby. go on a walk and push the baby around in a stroller. get a cheap stationary bike or treadmill of craigslist and you can use that while watching your baby. also eat right. diet pills are not the answer. they are bad for you and you are risking more than what you already have with these medical problems you are speaking of. Also, you will just gain the weight right back. Change your lifestyle, make excersize and healthy eating a priority and stop making excuses..
Wrassler,
Since posting this question, I have found out that my already low-functioning thyroid has almost completely stopped producing- so they've tripled my dosage for that and it's helping- not yet with the weight loss, though they said it will, but it is with my low energy.
I DO exercise as much as I can. I go jogging or walking several days a week. But working full time, having to do dinner, and having to accommodate my son's schedule makes it difficult to do every day- plus I refuse to take him out in a downpour, which it does several times a week. I have a jogging stroller, but due to the foot pain, I can only go for about 10 minutes (jogging), then I have to stop, take my shoe off because it hurts so bad, and hobble home. It's not very productive, and that's the problem- I have to quit before I've gotten a good enough work out. I've been speed-walking with flip-flops on, and that has helped.
I also said I go swimming with him. If I could find somebody to go with me to watch him, I would- nobody is willing to go, and nobody can watch him when the pool is open for non-members.
So yes, a lot of excuses, but they're also valid REASONS- if you've ever carried a child and had to deal with the weight gain, you'll know that- but I'm guessing you're a guy and haven't. I've been an athlete my whole life- I know the importance of eating right and exercise. Before I conceived my son I was 127lbs and am 5'7- I did 3 miles at a time every other day. On the off days I did weight training. I'm not a lazy person- I'm a person in pain who wants to work out but can't.
I took my own advice- I tried Alli, and have lost 5 pounds in a week and 3 days, in addition to the good diet I've already had and bike riding with the baby in the trailer (doesn't hurt my knees or foot as bad). Losing that little bit with help has already made my foot feel better and my knees don't ache quite so bad- and I can probably start jogging like normal soon.
So- you didn't answer my question at all and instead assumed me to be this lazy couch potato that eats junk all of the time and wants a quick fix- not true.

Safe, effective diet pills?
OK, I was wondering if any of you have taken Alli diet pills? I stopped nursing my 8 month old a few weeks ago, so there is no chance at all that I'll pass any dangerous ingredients to him.
I need to lose about 10 lbs. In reality, I need to lose 30, but...
I just need to shed a few with help from pills so I wont have such bad knee pain. (I also have collapsed arches from the prolastin due to pregnacy, and the weight gain... I can't wear lace-up shoes without extreme pain...) I go swimming whenever I can, but with working full time and being a single mom, that works out to be once a week for barely an hour (baby + cold water = hypothermia). I'm just in a pinch right now, and after all I've gone through in the past year, if I could get my body fat down, my self-image and self-esteem would go up drastically.
So I just need to lose a little so that I can be comfortable and lose the rest the way I always have in the past- by exercising.
Has anybody been sucessful with the Alli program? Or any other program? I'm overweight, not obese, so I don't need anything super hard-core- just something to jump-start.
Thanks!
