Why can't I get online on my ipod touch?

Why can't I get on the internet on my new iPod touch? I checked the networks I joined and it says I am connected, but when I click on Safari or YouTube, it says that it cannot connect to the server. What is going on here?

Okay. Some connections use proxy settings or a proxy server. So, while you can be connected to the wireless network, unless you feed the proxy settings into your computer/device, it can't get out to the interweb. Or, you could have proxy settings in there when the network you have doesn't have any - so its looking for something that isn't there.

You need to check your network's configuration and find out if its using a proxy or not. The best way to do this is to check the settings on a computer that connects to the network and can get onto the interweb successfully. If you're not sure how to do that, funmail me and we'll go through it together - it will depend on a whole bunch of things how you should go about it.
