Why is my rubber tree plant going bare?

I bought a rubber tree plant approx 3 months ago and now healthy green leaves are falling off, at least 3-4 daily. I water weekly and it's not in direct sunlight. It was such a big beautiful plant that is now going bare. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?

Healthy leaves falling off? That's a new one on me; all the ones that fell off on my plants yellowed first. I'd check for insect parasites.

If you end up with a long bare stem you can air layer it and then replant but try to determine the cause of the leave loss first.
