Rubber plant type

I am not sure if this is a rubber plant or not but it is of that family. Thick dark green leaves. The question i have is what are the long shoots that grow off the plant. I dont see that they do anything except wither and drop off, yet they keep...

If they are near the bottom then they are potential roots. You can bury the plant deeper after transplanting it.
