It's pretty rare for worms to cross species...I'm surprised the Vet thought this was a necessary step (unless, the fact that the dog vomited the worm suggested that he was highly infested)...especially for roundworms. Had it been a tapeworm...or a hookworm, maybe...I think you're all pretty safe now.

Last night, our 1.5 year old dog vomited; we found 1 worm. We brought our dog and the worm to the vet this morning. It was a roundworm. We were given a dose of drontal plus and we gave it to him right away. Our vet also recommended the humans in the...
family get treated as well (she was concerned because our dog vomited up the worm). I picked up a OTC medication, Combantrin, and we have taken our doses. My question is, how long will it be before our dog isn't contagious? I'm a bit freaked out and I'm washing my hands everytime I touch him! I've bleached his bedding and ours (he cuddles on our bed before going to sleep in his bed), but I'm still worried about possible contagion. Thanks!
