according to its etymology

Rocky means
1) "full of rocks," c.1400, from rock (n.); "unsteady," 1737, from rock (v.1). Meaning "difficult, hard" is recorded from 1873, and may represent a little of both.

2) Diminutive of ROCCO (ROCCO : Italian form of a Germanic name derived from the element hrok meaning "rest". This was the name of a 14th-century saint who nursed victims of the plague but eventually contracted the disease himself. He is the patron saint of the sick.)
