Removing dark stain for refinishing a table

I have a table that I want to refinish and the previous owner stained it with dark cherry colored stain. I was wondering if there is anyway of removing the color and re-staining it?

yes there is, you can completely sand it off, and refinish it that way, or you can buy a can of paint and stain remover- spray it on- let it loosen the finish- scrape it off, wash off the residue with a wet rag- sand it - refinish.

you should be able to find that kind of stripper at your local hardware store- tell them you want to strip stain off of a table- and they will get what you need.
