Religion while i babysit?

Who's that? Oh, me. Asked by maddie1414 8 months ago, 14 answers.

The little girl I babysit says the Lord's name in vain. Personally, I see this as a sin. It's not a huge deal I even catch my self saying it sometimes, but I'd like to at least remind her to say Oh my gosh or something. Even though I'm not her...

parent, is it still okay for me to correct her? At least while I'm in charge of taking care of her?

*** It is a perfect chance to witness to her.

No, it ISN'T. It is neither your responsibility nor your right to 'witness' to other people's children. IMHO, this should be illegal.

whenshe says it just say oh my gosh and say it everytime after her and since shes little she might end up thinking that thats what your supposed to say. I know what you mean, I HATE when people use the lords name in vain, esspecially at school or in books or movies.

good luck

Well, that depends on if the family believes in that certain religion of which containing god. Because if not then you shouldn't bother.

Because it's not really up to you, it's more of up to the parents.

No, I don't intend to correct everyone who says the Lord's name in vain because as I said earlier, I even say it sometimes. However, I don't want her to start bad habits at such a young age. Thanks for your opinion on this topic.

I think if you're offended or put off by what she is saying then I think you can say something. Try taking the whole religion factor out of it.
If she said poopy head or something like that happy and it bothered you, you would say something then right?
I think as long as you do it in a polite manner you 're not stepping over any parent boundries. I'm a parent who hires babysitters, I think you're being thoughtful.

If someone believed in an all-mighty Pink Unicorn, and you would hear them correct someone for saying oh my pink unicorn and tell them to say oh my pony instead, because the all-mighty Pink Unicorn can get upset(wonder why), would you think it's totaly fine?
If not, then don't correct her.

It is a perfect chance to witness to her. I would say something like, Could we talk about something that is bothering me? and then express to her how it makes you feel when she says that, and that God is important to you, and his word tells us to not do that. Tell her you understand that it is a habit that she has picked up from others, and if she is willing you will be willing to pray with her and for her concerning this, also, you may be able to enlist others to pray with you for this, you may be able to lead her to the Lord, thru this. I will be praying for you, and her.

God bless...

***It is a perfect chance to witness to her.***

You mean... a perfect chance to potentially get fired...

I think you should research further what it REALLY means to ''take the lord's name in vain''

Cursing, cussing, swearing, etc. does NOT mean today, that it meant in biblical times.

I personally believe that in any relationship between people, there should be respect. If something she says/does/etc. troubles you, respectfully explain to her why it bothers you. Ask her politely not to, because it offends you. If she won't then it's her problem, and you'll have to deal with it like at school and what not. Just don't press it; forcing your beliefs on someone never turns out well.
