Relationship problem

I have a really complicated scenario here. so please help me out :]
By the way I'm a 17 year old, female , Senior in High School.

okay so there was this boy who I went out with for like a month. I broke up with him because I thought it wasnt fair...

that he had stronger feelings than me, he constantly lied over little stuff, because he took his anger out on me a whole lot. So now there's this guy who I've known since October of last year ( his name is John ). We never really talked much, we just said hi and things like that. He asked me for my # so I gave it to him because I thought he was kind of cute. So we just started talking and we decided to hang out at the boardwalk with my family to see fireworks on the 4th of July. Now, on the way to the car my ex calls my cousin who is cool with him the ex asks her what she's doing and blah, then she tells him who's she's with. (my ex knows John and they are sort of cool, they were in the same 5th grade class they reunited around February of this year. By the way the ex is a weird kid, he calls up John like once in a while and tells him his problems, John doesn't consider him as a friend really because he annoys him but to be nice he talks to him because he doesnt want them to be enemies knowing that me and him went out) Okay so anyway my cousin and him hang up. We get in the car and then like 10 minutes later, he calls John. John doesn't pick up the phone call because he knows now that my ex is going to yell at him because' he's jealous. Then my cousin calls me tells me that my ex called her telling her that he's soo pissed at John for doing that to him. Then I get a call from restricted I don't answer because I know its probably him I seriously dont feel like hearing his mouth. Hours pass and my cousin calls me saying that he is extremely pissed and he told her that he wants to fight John. Also that she tried calming him down and tell him that fighting John is really retarded and its not going to solve anything. But my ex is hard headed and doesnt even listens to her and yells at her. So she gets mad of helping him out and just hangs up on him. The next day he calls John and threatens him and they plan to fight somewhere. (my ex is a big guy John on the other hand, is not) John tells me he really doesnt want to fight because he's not that kind of person plus there's really no point in to it. So apparently they fight and from what I've heard John won. Later that day my ex calls me and starts making up stories that the cops came and there was blood everywhere and he's really trying to act all hard trying to make me impressed for some reason. But I'm not believing it one bit, so I just hang up. Later on that night John calls me and tells me everything not leaving a single detail. He tells me my ex left him 2 voice messages threatning him again. Then calls him again and John answers, and my ex apologizes. Like a forgiving guy John is, he forgives him because once again, he doesnt want to make enemies. Except John said he's not going to talk to him as much like before and not hang out with him. So after that I ignore it, and me and John continue talking to each other more and more. This goes on for about 4 months and we start liking each other more also. We act like boyfriend girlfriend (not in public) but we are not =/ . We are keeping it a secret from everyone except our best friends because he's scared someone might tell my ex. One day my ex called him to know what's up and he asks John about me. Since we are keeping everything a secret because of him he tells him that he hasnt talked to me in days. That's the thing that bothers me, I don't to stay being friends with benefits with him. I want us to be something more. He tells me he does too but he's waiting until my ex gets a girl/ get over me. I'm willing to wait too because I think he's worth it but I just want to call him my boyfriend already. I believe he should do whatever he wants and not even worry about him. But I understand where he's coming from because my ex is psycho, like literally. I stongly believe that he has bipolar syndrome. Like he constantly lies about things you easily tell. But not just to me but to everyone else. Also, one day he can be calm about one thing then maybe the next day he could be freaking out on something so calls up one of his friend the ones he calls his best friends to calm him down, they try to help him out giving him advice, but he just ignores it and does whatever his head tell him to and go after what's making him angry. And with him you never know what he'll do. As of right now, I'm ignoring my exes calls, because I've told him I want nothing to do with him, because of the drama he brings in my life I dont got time for it. But I just dont know what to do. Someone pleaseee help me!

all I can say is wwwooowww. that is so dramtic. ok so go out with john. who cares what your ex thinks? you are better than him. trust me same thing happened when my ex and I broke up. he was being a total deuch bag and then backed off. that is why you just ignore them and do whatever you want to do trust me, just try it.
