Recording audio from computer

Nice view Asked by bgb2832 5 months ago, 1 answer.

How do you record audio that is on your computer without using the microphone? I tried audacity but it's not free. And right now I need something free. I have windows xp. Is there anything built-in to my pc where I can record up to an hour of audio and...

store into a file then convert it into an mp3 file?

Thanks

Audacity is free (as well as open source), in fact. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ is their official webpage.
If you need the MP3 exporter Audacity can use, see their page http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=installitem=lame-mp3

Windows XP comes with sound recorder, but it is, as far as I know, limited to 60 seconds.
