I have a boy dog named bamba and a girl dog named shoshana (shoshi, shoshani).
You can't give a dog a very serious name or a human name unless it's so serious that it's funny to name the dog after that person or name, such as Mozart and Beethoven. But names like Max are unoriginal. Stick with names that you can make nicknames out of that end with ee sound.
