I have a 1 year old cat she just got out of kittenhood, and they may not start to sit on your lap until they start to mature, and don't try to hold them against their will, they won't sit on your lap ever if you do that, but don't worry they are just really full of energy they don't want to sit down to long they want to get up and romp around, both my girls do the same thing, give them time they'll get lazy, give them a good year and a half, and play with them a lot it will bond you very well and they will want to spend time with you 24-7.
