What's your opinion on purity rings? Do you need like a ceremony for it? Does it have to be an actual purity ring or can you use just a regular ring?

Do you mean just an internal oath to stay pure? Go ahead. I did it sort of. No ring or oath, just the mind set of waiting for the right one (not based on a fear or religion, just based on self-respect). Took awhile but I found her, and was married for many years.

Purity rings are fine as long as they are combined with actual sex ed.
It has been shown that if a purity ring wearer falls of the wagon, there is a 88% probability that they will not use any protection. And that means a bunch of teen pregnancies. And you would think that would convince the abstinence-only crowd to rethink their strategy.
Nothing is wrong with abstinence. And nothing is wrong with the young of today being fully, and medically informed.

no you dont need a ceramony
and yes, you can use any ring
its not the ring itself thasts important, its the promise you make to yourself
the ring just symbolizess your promise...to stay pure and not have sex untill marrige or untill your 18 or untill whenever you decide

I think they're a hugely damaging attempt to use peer pressure to get people to behave in the way the people administering them want them to behave. When someone 'falls off the wagon', as bimjob puts it, in addition to the high chance of unprotected sex, they feel too ashamed of breaking their oath to talk to anyone about it.

I wouldn't wear one. but I'm jealous of the people that do, they get so much respect and people really look up to them. they just seem to stand for something better, something we all wish we were. at least for me anyway.
