Dear jlc35906,
purging is different from anorexia or bulimia. Anorexic's feel the need to stop eating as they have faulty thinking about body image and the lack of coping skills. Bulimia is excessive eating then throwing up; feeling guilty about the food they have eating and a lack of coping skills. Purging is throwing up when someone has consumed little or a normal amount of food. Purging is the newest disorder on the block and little is understood about it. We do know it (purging) like the rest is a psychological disorder and can be and sometimes is life threatening.
Sue...good luck
Bulimia nervosa, commonly known as bulimia, is an eating disorder. It is a psychological condition in which the subject engages in recurrent binge eating followed by intentional purging. This purging is done in order to compensate for the excessive intake of food, usually to prevent weight gain. Purging can take the form of vomiting; inappropriate use of laxatives, enemas, diuretics or other medication; or excessive physical exercise.
most people use the word purging as a name for making yourself sick.
medical people tend to refer to purging as some way of "getting rid" of the food you have eaten.
such as: making yourself sick, taking laxatives/diet pills/diuetics, over-excersizing, enemas, etc.
this is most well known to be done by bulimics after they have binging [eat a lot in one go].
some anorexics do purge, but they don't binge.
hope that helps.

What is purging?
Ok.. Purgeing... WHAT IS IT? lol, sorry for asking but I was just curious.
