Pure vs mixed

My question is quite simple and not to hurt anyones feelings. Why do so many people get upset or mad when a dog is of mixed breed? I have purebreed chihuahua that I do breed and I have a deaf Aussie that came into work as a stray that I took home, due to an irresponsible breeder that did not care about breeding Merle on Merle. I do respect the show ring and the people who better the breed. I however can't stand when people try to rip people off. We have clients coming into the hospital with puppies from a local pet shop and the prices are crazy and they are more then likely coming from a puppy mill. And the new owners say " but it has papers" And I say are you going to show or breed and they say no just wanted a pet. I know from my studies it is very hard to have a puppy out of a liter that will be a champion. I understand people are in love with a breed. I myself like a certian breed over others. However I just think the word mutt get thrown around so bad and on this web site that it may deter people who want a good pet to go the the local shelter. I just want people to be smart about what to pay of not to pay for a puppy, or a new "designer breed" but lets not forget about the great "Mutts" that do need homes. This was not to offend anyone Just really want to know how many people feel that it matters if it is pure or Mixed and How much money you would spend?

dogs are dogs just like humans are humans...
people who dislike mixed breeds are pretty vain really...
I've also had a pure breed german shepherd (short hair)
I got him when he was just a month old from a police dog kennel for about 120$
I wouldnt think of paying 2500 dollars for a puppy even if it was the purest breed there ever was, I mean im not going to put him in a show or breed it, itll be my friend and that doesnt mean I need a prized pup...every dog has a heart and those people calling em mutts havent got one even though they say they "love" theyre dogs...>_> more like they love the awards the dog brings...

Yes and I don't need a big leture on puppy population or cat. I do work at a vet hospital and see it first hand. It may be a long time till we see that all pet owners are responsiable, we still have not gotten rid of racsiam in humans or bad mothers and fathers, so I think animals are far down on that list of things to do. Just want people to know it is ok to go get a mixed breed from a shelter.

Ok that is what I am trying to say informer. But I do respect those who show and better the breed as long as they don't speak bad about going to a pound or giving someone the wrong idea about a dog with papers. Heck my grandparents don't even have papers.LOL LOL

I rub elbows with all types of dog lovers...all different breeds, and cross breeds...dog lovers love dogs...period. I think where there is some "looking down the nose"...or "OMG, you're kidding!!", is with the new faddish "designer breeds"...Cross bred dogs, going for outragious prices...and giving the less than knowledgable buyers the feeling that they are getting something wonderful (going ONLY by the very FAT price they pay)...when in fact it is simply a very cute mutt..."Chugs", "Puggles", all the so called breeds ending in "Poo"..."Cockapoo", "Lasapoo", "Yorkie-poo" etc...These cross breedings also make for BIG BIG cash in the Puppy Mill industries...another reason real dog lovers start to gag.

Myself??? I've got a purebred GSD, but my history has been...one purchased dog, an one rescued dog...our normal MO is to take in a black dog from the pound...and we've had great luck with our mutts...!!

Yes Phrannie, right on. My other question is why do some Kennel club like AKC, not let the does be spayed or neutered. I know the obvious answer but Do they not care about the quality of your dogs life. Getting them spayed and neutered decreases there chances of getting different types of cancer. do they not care about that?

People who "work their way up" in the dog show circuit, aren't interested in spaying or neutering, for one thing, most are GOOD breeders, and the way to promote a dog is to show it...A dog who is a big winner in the show circuit has not only the potential of bettering the breed, but of "paying his way" so to speak. Showing is VERY expensive...There really is no point in having a Westminster "Best of Show" that is neutered or spayed...

The AKC does however promote neutering and spaying, if one is not going to show...every dog lover is highly aware of the over population, and that includes "hobby breeders'..."production breeders" don't give a rat's a**.

Many hobby breeders sell pups with limited registrations, to protect their lines...and to ensure only the best of the best are ever used for breeding...show families, Schuzhund people, Sports dog trainers... people who will make sure the pups they buy will be shown or titled...

In the last few years, the studies on testicle cancer and breast cancer in non-fixed animals, have changed...the incidence isn't as high as once thought...My personal opinion is..."I'm not going to tell Joe Blow on the street that"...and will continue to push the health aspect of spaying and neutering .

what I dont understand is people do cross breed for ex: a pug and a beagle to get a "puggle" and the prices are so darn crazy for them! That isnt a purebred..a purebred is just that pure bred 100% one thing...a puggle to me is a "mutt" why is mutt a bad word? it shouldnt be...a pug and beagle are so adorable! its a cross breed of two diff. breeds...animals of whatever breed are adorable! They all need homes and love!
Dixie is a 100% pug...no papers..who cares...her parents were papered. ...the pug she was bred with is papered...her puppies wont be...does that make them less 100% pug? No! lol still the same dog to me...either way...just a status symbol to have papers...
