its normal of a dog to do that they enjoy the smell my dog use to rub her head in it because it attracts other dogs and smells nice to them. you just need to teach her its bad to do that my dog got the point when she got washed down 4 times in one day. try spraying her with a squirt bottle and firmly telling her no. then emeditly after washing her mouth out.
Hello
My mom's dog was actually doing that a few days ago, and my cousin said it might be because she was hungry or something. If thats not the case, then I suggest putting some pepper (or something really hot) on it so she won't do it again. I know that sounds mean, but it might help. I would also give her water after wards.
Yes this is common and they do it because they are lacking something in their diet. The vet hospital I work for, we sell a product you can put in there food that will deter her from wanting to eat it, It is a very hard habit to break, my female chihuahua does it. I have to watch her like a hawk and clap my hands and say no after weeks of being on her, she does not do it anymore.
They learn this at a early age from there mother, it is instict for the mother do eat poop and pee to keep the den clean and so preditors will not smell them. Good luck
It's a common thing for dogs...it's GOOD that you keep the yard picked up...that's about the best you can do. I've heard that sprinkling MSG on their food will also stop them from eating poop, but I don't think it's successful with every dog.
The finding of tidbits on walks...rabbit, deer, even horse apples...is a delightful gourmet treat in their eyes.
I've never had a dog who could resist horse poop, or cat poop (almond roca doggie style)...so the only alternative is to keep them away from it as much as possible. All that fibre in the non-meat eating animals, can cause the runs...
Learning the command LEAVE IT...will help at least on the walks.

Puppy eats poo
We brought home a new puppy; a cockapoo. She is adorable but has this nasty habit of eating her poo. Also, when we walk her she will find rabbit deer poo and try to eat it. I've recently tried spooning pumpkin pie filling over her food and it worked...
for about a week until we caught her today. I've ordered something over the net called 'Forbid' tablets to mix into her food but haven't recieved them yet. we are trying to clean up the yard daily. My question is WILL SHE OUTGROW THIS NASTY HABIT? IS IT A PUPPY THING OR ARE SOME DOGS JUST POO EATERS? By the way, she is 14 weeks. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
