Puppies attacked by its own mother

Why does my dog attack and snap at her own puppies. The pup is three weeks old and the dog (her mother) attacks and snaps at her around the head?

hiya hun,
it sounds like the mother is rejecting her puppie. if this is the case the best thing to do is grant her wish and keep the pups away as she could kill them. this does happen from time to time. contact your vet for further advice hun. hope thi helps you

The pups are old enough to be weaned in this case. Your dog is wanting to wean her pups. Get puppy chow kibble and ground it up in a blender, and add some water and a little can milk to it and start feeding the puppies. (easy on the can milk, you really don't need it, if you use puppy chow) Feed the pup three times a day. Keep it's area clean and washed up. Mom will no longer be keeping up with it.

Remove the mother. She may end up hurting her puppy very badly or killing it.

You should have been clipping the puppies nails, have you been doing this? Either way, teeth and nails, some moms are just finished at this stage.
