When I took Public Speaking in college, one of the things the teacher emphasized over and over is that if you are nervous you should figure out what is making you nervous and take care of it.
If it is presenting to an audience that is making you nervous, remember that all the people in the audience are rooting for you. If you mess up, it makes them cringe and feel uncomfortable for you so they want you to do well. Its easy to imagine everyone is just waiting for you to make a fool of yourself, but that isn't the case. Also, if everyone else in the audience has to do a presentation as well, they are just as nervous as you are so they support you. Remember that the audience is on your side.
If it is messing up that makes you nervous, remember that if you practice over and over you will feel more confident about your presentation and you're less likely to mess up.
Also, don't forget that it will only last a few minutes and then it will be over. Good luck!
You could try imagining them all naked but I don't think that works.
Believe in what your saying. Know it, and believe that what your saying is the best. Recently in history we had to say who we thought the best world leader was, I picked Winston Churchill I picked him as I really believed he is.
You know I got myself excited and shouted my reasons you know He won us the war, without him we would be lving in Hitler's England he is THE BRITISH BULLDOG. I saw people grinning at me, but it was woth it, I won.
SO COME ON YOU ARE RIGHT!!!
Hello mandy,
You know what! Even the best public speakers always have a little bit nervous feeling, this feeling is good...it shows that you care about it. But don't forget you are going to make presentation to human beings, and not GOD!!! if you put enthusiasm, sincerity and well prepared attitude, YOU WILL BE JUST FINE.
While preparing your presentation, these three things are helpful to consider!
1)WHOM I AM SPEAKING TO (find their interests, values, age group...)
2)AM I PREPARED WELL ENOUGH AND REHEARSE IT AT LEAST ONE TIME
3)YOUR ATTITUDE SHOULD BE ALWAYS POSITIVE, EVEN SOMETIMES YOU MAY HAVE DIFFICULT TIME TO ANSWER THE AUDIENCE QUESTION, THE WORST THING YOU MAY SAY OH THANK YOU, I NEVER THOUGHT FROM THIS ASPECT (regarding question)..you gave me an idea to do further research about this issue, and I will let you know when I find the right data...AND JUST SMILE...REMEMBER the person who asked this question doesn't know the answer, THAT'S WHY HE ASKED YOU...
