Is this acceptable conduct?

snow curl view from under the porch Asked by elone about 1 year ago, 14 answers.

Is it acceptable conduct for an Advisor to lock a thread just because he/ she doesnt like an answer? Even when that answer is back by verifiable reference?

No, I don't think so. If the answer is in any way inappropriate or offensive, then yes, they can lock it. However, if there is nothing wrong with it, I encourage you to fun mail thedude and let him know. It is possible that there was some other reason for them to lock it, so don't get so worked up too quickly.

I thought this was where my question went, privately to Thedude.

I do not think questions can go privately to thedude...is it locked, deleted or is an answer locked or deleted? I'm a bit confused..

There are different guidelines and certain reasons advisors would lock a question.. Perhaps the question is against the Terms of Use..

If you have a question about a question that was locked.. you can funmail the link of the question to Thedude or Editor.. with your comments, questions and concerns.

I've seen threads locked because they were to long (and the advisor stated to start another thread) and because the thread was getting completely off subject.
Hope that helps.

the only advisors I've seen on here are rediculously religious

Not the case. thedude is definitely not one I would classify as ridiculously religious.

The ONLY reasons advisors should lock questions are if they break the Terms of Use. Not because the question clashes with their personal opinion.

Please funmail with specific names and links if you feel that this has not been the followed protocol.

Thanks

I don't know if you're new to this, but thats partially what this site is used for. constructive criticism of other people's perspectives and open-mindedness towards different ideas and analysis. Being that you havn't answered the question posted on this topic, im going to assume that you shouldn't even be participating in this conversation...unless you have your OWN intelligent analysis of the topic at hand...which I somehow doubt.

Hm, I think we might need to create some special messaging when people ask other members questions.

This happens fairly often...people click the ask $member a question link, and guess it's private, etc.

elone, I sent you a fun mail (private message) feel free to reply when you can.

Like most people who run a website in their free time (even a popular one) I have a day job, and am not here as often as I'd like so I missed this earlier.

We try very hard to be fair here...and, I'm sure we fail sometimes. However, every opportunity we can try to do better than we did before.

Anyway, we really, really appreciate those abuse reports if you click it, I read every one of those, daily. 7 days a week, even when I should be playing with my kids or taking time off, because if somebody uses that link, it's like our all hands on deck alert.

And, if we get a few of them, then we (in the past) have either dismissed advisors OR asked them to tone it down, etc.

Personal story: years ago, I was a moderator on a very popular forum. My posting permission was removed shortly after I was removed as moderator, and I couldn't participate for nearly a year.

happy I learned my lesson, and now the shoe is firmly on the other foot...however, with 700 answers a day, there's no way a single person on our team can read everything on the site sad so we miss stuff.

browneyedgrl4123,

You've got to admit, although many people are biased and critical on the religious side, you are rather biased and critical against the religious side. The object of this site is to allow ANY side to be expressed. If you want others to respect your opinions, it's only fair that you should consider others' opinions. You have every right to express your own ideas, but so does everyone else; that's what makes FunAdvice worth using!
