Why can't my parents spend money on my prom?

okay im so mad right now. I don't know what to do. let me start off by saying my parents have a lot of money. they make 600,000 to 650,000 a year. great and wonderful. whatever. but, they don't like hand it to me and let me shop and get me a new car and all that, im NOT spoiled. most girls my age around me don't make anywhere near even HALF of what my parents make, but they always go shopping and everything, and I only get new clothes before school starts (my dad sets me at a $200 limit, and he shops with me...ha) and during christmas break with my christmas money (usually $100 to $200) and I don't get allowance. since you know that, I'll get on with my story now.

my parents were FINALLY going to actually spend money on me. for prom. (btw, my mom made me get a dress from a consignment shop, its pretty and it cost $150, but im just telling you how she is...I don't know why) they werent going to spend a lot, lol, but what normal girls get. they were going to get my hair done, nails done, get my prom shoes, and a clutch for me to carry. (we have a limo, my friend rented it, her mom is like in with the limo company somehow) sooo I was going to look perfect

then, tragedy struck. I got poison ivy. so I went and got a shot, and im on medication so its finally going away. that stressed me out. (it didnt cost a lot). NOW...my mom is saying she CAN'T go get my shoes, hair done, clutch, nails done, etc because SHE DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY. its bull, I know they do. im pretty sure they're saving it up to buy a new truck (they own a trucking company) but I don't see how sparing 100$ on me would hurt. or even saving some beforehand when they knew I had prom...its just not fair to me. prom is FRIDAY...and I dont have my nails done, hair appointment, shoes, clutch, etc at all...

this wouldnt upset me at all (bc I know she can do my hair) except my nails look sooo bad AND I need shoes...I have no heels...or flats that would match my dress. AND...my boyfriends parents hate me, and they love his brothers girlfriend, and its a really long story but I was finally excited to look better than her...and now I wont. im so jealous. and im just so mad and I dont know what to do.

I guess this was just a rant. im really upset and I dont feel like anything has gone my way. im going to look like a mess for prom, AND I had poison ivy so I've been so messed up...

I don't know anymore..btw I know this isn't in the right category, but most people come to this one so I thought I would get the best feedback here.

yeah seriously what advice do you want! ask yourself this question 'do I ever thank my parents for what they do' helllooo!!! at least ACT lucky!!! and you said you weren't Spoiled PALEASEEE!!!

excuse you both, im NOT SPOILED. I don't ever get anything, no matter what kind of money my parents have. they're selfish and they don't ever want to spend it on me except to make me look good. they MAKE me wear a certain kind of clothing...first they wanted me to look good for PROM and now they don't care.

its not about the clothes or anything, nails, whatever. im more mad about how they treat me. my brother is in track, cross country, and basketball. every YEAR they spend $500 on him to get 5 pairs of shoes...a few for basketball, and one for the other sports. that's outrageous. I golf and my dad doesn't even want to get me new clubs. it's all about my brother, because he's the BEST RUNNER at my school and THE BEST basketball player on the team. so he gets whatever he wants, and he's a little brat. im not bratty, and I dont get anything, ever.

did you guys even read the whole thing?? I don't get anything, they may have money, but I dont GET ANYTHING. I have like a zillion chores. no new clothes. my car is a 95 chevy cavalier, im 17 and they havent even got my permit for me yet, and my 15 year old BROTHER WRECKED IT so now I cant even drive it, they wont fix it and they didnt get mad at my brother.

we dont live in a nice house, it only cost like 125,000 just like every other house around here. I have the smallest room (go figure) and I cant put tacks in the walls or anything. my parents want to be rich, but not me...they dont care what I feel like. thats the thing.

im sorry about you guys' life. mine hasnt been easy either. my parents got divorced when I was little (they got back together) and I moved around from house to house (like 10 times) and my mom was on FOOD STAMPS thats how we lived. I lived in trailers and dumpy duplexes, a one bedroom house at one point but you're calling ME SPOILED??? we never had money back then. my uncle shot himself when I was little. oh, but I have a great life.

Well, I can't make this really long b/c I have homework, but I did read your whole post so I know whats going on. Don't worry, I don't think your spoiled. Getting to the point, I know your really upset b/c of your parents do not want to give in to the prom thing. Which, I don't really understand why the changed their mind. The poison ivy thing??? Anyways, judging from your profile it looks like your truely love your boyfriend. Therefore, if you don't get your hair or make- up done. It shouldn't really matter. The only thing that should matter is that your going to spend it with your boyfriend that only cares about you. Not what you wear and how your hair is done. Just be happy your going and you have your boyfriend by your side. That should be the only thing on your mind. Try to research hair-do's and make-up tips so you can do it on your own. Just make sure you practice and try the hair and make up a couple days before prom so you won't be stressing at the last minute. So when the day comes you know exactly what to do. And the shoe thing, just have a friend let you borrow a pair or go shopping with you boyfriend. Just don't buy anything expense. Just remember its just one night.

Um, I don't really understand the question. Or lack of one.

But okay, I think you're freaking out a little, but that's understandable. I understand that you wanted this to be your big night, but I really don't think that these little things should ruin your big night.

I'm sure you can find a way around it. Try asking to borrow a friend's heels that might match your dress, paint your nails yourself or have someone with a steady hand paint them for you. Go for a simpler look with your hair - something that you can do at home.

You already got your dress and your date, so these other little things can be fixed. Don't stress so much, and try to focus on what you DO have, and not what you don't have.

I got my make up done at the mall in a dillards by one of the sales ladies. if you go in the middle of the day (when they are slow) and throw them a small tip, they would probably be extatic. you're parents might have a lot of money on paper, but if they are smart, it is not rotting in a bank account. if they are smart the bulk of their money is invested in places they cannot easily withdraw it from. that is how wealthy people stay wealthy. as far as them saving up for a truck, that would make that money considered business money, which is not something they will should pull money out of for you prom anyway. it seems like maybe your mom is wiser than you give her credit for. think about it long term, if the money is that important to you, you will probably inherit their millions when your parents pass away. I hope you can find a way to make things fun at your prom despite your lack of financial freedom. could you get a job within walking distance?
