When you have ie8 open, click on Help > Index > uninstall Internet Explorer.

Check out what the instructions are. Pay particular attention near the bottom to see if it says that if you had a previous version of Internet Explorer that it will automatically be reinstalled.

A sample below is what I get doing the above procedure in ie7.

To uninstall Internet Explorer

If Internet Explorer is not working properly, it might be because some important files have been lost or damaged. In this case, it is often beneficial to uninstall Internet Explorer and then reinstall it.

In Windows, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Remove a program.
In the list of currently installed programs, click Internet Explorer 7, and then click Remove.
Follow the prompts on the screen to uninstall Internet Explorer.
If you want to, you can now download and reinstall Internet Explorer 7 by visiting the Internet Explorer 7 (http://www.microsoft... website.

Note

If you had a previous version of Internet Explorer on your computer before you installed Internet Explorer 7, your computer will roll back to the previous version if you uninstall Internet Explorer 7.
