It depends on when you ovulate. If an egg isn't there, it can't get fertilized.
So you ovulate and the egg gets fertilized. Within a matter of hours, the microscopic zygote divides, then divides again and again. About a week later,(implantation happens 5-9 days after fertilization) a ball of around 100 cells (called a blastocyst) reaches your uterus and settles down into the uterine lining. You have now reached implantation — the moment that fertilization gives way to pregnancy — when the sperm's journey gives way to your own incredible, life-transforming trip to parenthood.
If the fertilized egg doesn't get implanted into the uterine lining before your body tells it to break down for menses then yes, the fertilized egg will be flushed out.
