Hi, I have a about a thirteen week old cockapoo puppy. I got him when he was about 8 weeks old. Well, at the time I got him we were busy so we couldn't get him outside as much as we would of liked. So he still piddles in the house and poops. And this of course makes my mom mad at me for not taking him out. Well I just started school again so now I can't really help it. Plus my mom does daycare so she is home all day. She says she doesn't have time to take him out during the day, she is too busy, and he runs away from her if she does take him out. Well, he runs away from me when I take him out and I have to chase him! My mom is overweight though so she can't chase him around forever. My question is: How can I potty train him so that he understands not to go to the bathroomin the house?! ALSO How can I make him not runaway from me when I come near him to take him back inside? Please help! This is making me and my mom fight more often and we have a close relationship so I don't want to ruin it over my puppy, because I love him and want to keep him too! Thank you for your time! Chelsea

Aw, I have a little yorkie/poo, and a cocka/poo, and I love them both to death. We got our little yorkie/poo when he was just 5 wks old. (his mother was not a good mother, so all the pups had to go to homes before their time).
Potty training takes a lot of time, and patience. Your puppy is going to need your moms help as well as yours, especially when you are at school, and she is home. If you both work together, it will happen sooner than you think. The trick I find that works the best is, hot dogs (cut in very small pieces) and use them as a reward. Put leftovers in a small container, and everytime you take your puppy out, bring a piece outside with you, so you can give it to him as soon as he goes. (that is very important) Dogs LOVE hot dogs!
At this stage your puppy will not let you know when he has to go out, so its YOUR job to take him out about every 1/2 hr-1hr, depending on how much food or water he consumes within that time, because he is still little, and cant hold it a real long time.
Put him on a leash, and just lead him to where he should go. Kind of walk around with him, and keep telling him he needs to go potty. (he will eventually pick up on that word) Each time you want him to go outside, ask him if he has to go potty! When he finally does go (might take awhile, but dont bring him in until he does go) As soon as hes done doing what he needed to do, give him a small piece of hot dog, and tell him "good boy". (only 1) Never give him the reward until right after he goes, or you will confuse him.

As for my cocka/poo, I found her standing in the middle of a country road one day. Cars just kept passing around her, I thought she was going to get hurt. I stopped, and she didnt hesitate to jump in. I took her home, and right away she bonded with my mom. She was kind of a homely looking dog, not well cared for, very dirtty ears, and it looked like she never had a haircut. My mom gave her a bath, cleaned out her ears, and gave her a nice haircut. When I returned, I didnt even recognize her. Anyway, we had no clue what kind of dog she was (had an idea), or how old she was. Turned out she wasnt potty trained, but the sad thing was she didnt look that young. After much convincing, my dad finally agreed we could keep her, so we took her to the vet and had her checked out, and she got all her shots. They figured she was about 7 mos. old. It took my mom close to 2 weeks to potty train her. (she loved those hot dogs) I would walk out with her for like the first week, and 1/2. After that, I stayed by the door, and watched her from inside (it was cold out) and made sure she went, and as soon as she did, she'd come running to the door for her reward. LOL! She learned very quickly, and she probably had a few accidents after, but we have no idea what her life was like before she came into our lives. We dont know if she was ever potty trained, or if she was ever abused in anyway. From the way I found her, she couldnt have been taken care of very well, but shes going to be 2 years old in a few days (we gave her a new bday, since we dont know exactly when she was born. We can only go by what the vet told us) She is a very happy, and very healthy girl today, and my little guy adores her, and she has just won our hearts, and everyone she comes in contact with. We are so blessed to have her in our lives!

Good Luck. Just be consistent, and most of all... be very patient with him. GIve him lots of love, and you will get so much in return.
