Potty training

Asked by ri2005 6 months ago, 2 answers.

My daughter is 2 and it is time to start potty training. I was wondering what is the best approach to this and what to do about nighttime training. Thanks.

Make potty time fun - that is what worked with my little brother and what I plan on doing with my son.

I remember my parents introducing my lil' brother to his training potty and telling him how to use it. Every time he used the big boy potty - he got to pick a small suprise out of a special bag (it was filled with tiny little cheap 1 dollar toys), he would get so excited about getting a toy he would run to the toilet every time he had to go and make sure that someone noticed lol.

As for nighttime, I would suggest training pants just in case, and plastic sheet covers. They have a harder time learning how to wake up when they need to go. That takes more time and patience.

Get a kids book or video to introduce the potty. Let her pick out the color if possible. We use a baby bjorn potty that I found on craigslist for $10 and it is AWESOME (doesn't leak, pinch, or have crevices that get dirty, and its the perfect height) Just sit her on the potty with some books every time you go. She'll catch on. If you try to force her, she will rebel and think of it as a chore, or use it in a power struggle with you.
