Possibly stupid/genius question

Has anyone else ever noticed that the phrase "2 heads are better than one" sounds kind of odd?

I always say it "2 heads is better than one". I know that sounds weird too, purely because of language rules. But isn't it kind of a "(Having) 2 heads is better than (having) one" meaning?

I know it doesn't actually mean that you want to have 2 heads, although that would be sweet. But the normal phrasing seems to be saying that these 2 heads are better than this 1, for whatever reason.

Anyway, has anyone else ever had this thought? Do you say it like I do? Do I sound like a raving lunatic?

no, you're not crazy. it's a figure of speech, so it's hard to know whether to go with the literal meaning or the intended meaning...and then it will still sound weird.

it's a simile type metophore thingy!! Say it how you want! IT's fine as long as you know the meaning!

in my opinion,

"Two heads are better than one" implies two people. "Two heads is better than one" implies a person with two heads.
