Does it only happen when you have your browser window open? Try either closing all your browsers completely or restarting your computer.

I have restarted and have had no other browsers open. But I think it only happens when I have already opened a browser but it doesn't go awy after closing.

It could be a rogue mini-window that opens up and makes the noise. What sound is it? Is it just a 'popping' sound? Maybe it's from something else like a Gmail chat sound, which is a 'popping' sound.

You should run a virus scan. If you don't have one you can download a free one off AVG Anti-Virus Free, as that's what I use.

If you have a way of shutting off your speakers, do that.
(If the sounds persist, but not when your computer is off, then it's from your tower.)
If it stops when your speakers are off, you can try bringing up Windows Task Manager (hold down Ctrl and Alt keys and tap Delete key) and seeing if there are any Applications running that you can't account for.

If you want to scan your system for spyware - good free programs are Ad-aware OR Spybot-Search and Destroy OR Spyware Blaster.

If you want to scan your system for viruses, First you DO have anti-virus on your system? Right? If so get the latest update and run a complete system scan. May take a while.
If you don't have installed anti-virus, you can get free anti-virus online - AVG anti-virus OR Avast OR PC Tools anti-virus OR Panda anti-virus.
If you just want an anti-virus scan free ones are to be had from Pandaware OR Symantec (makers of Norton).

Good Luck!!

Strange. Have you tried looking on Task Manager if it shows up on there?

I don't know what to look for on Task Manager. It sounds like a video of like pod casts or somthing for shows. Sports. Radom things. And I think its different every time.

Task Manager shows what programs you're currently using. For example, if you have 2 Firefox windows open and iTunes open, it will show up there. If you see an extra Firefox window on Task Manager that shouldn't be there or anything else that you didn't open yourself, click on it and click End Task.

angels, if you know nothing about removing viruses, please don't say something extreme about it. Suzie can go get it repaired professionally or go buy an expensive thorough anti-virus program if she wants to, not throw her computer away!

It's a small problem that a professional anti-virus program can fix. If she gets a new computer and doesn't have an anti-virus prog, she'll come to the same problem sooner or later anyway. It's a good investment.

you both have good points. I'm no picking sides but I ended up DLing SpyBot and it did the trick.
