okay, clean up the house and do the dishes(I KNOW WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?) Just do it. While you're cleaning sing. Pretend noone is watching or listening and just sing. They're not going to think bad of you, you're just singing while cleaning! ahahahahaha

I can understand that. I have a very rich, operatic voice but when I sing and record, it sounds so blegh.

It normally depends on what you use to record yourself too, what are you using to record??

I'm terrified of singing in front of my family, too. That's just nerves. You just need to work up a little courage!! They're the best people to sing in front of, because they can critique, advise and encourage you!

Stay awesome!

dont quote me but, the reason your voice sounds different on a recording than it does to you is because when you hear yourself talk or sing, your ears not only hear your voice but also pick up the vibration in your voice which makes you hear a slightly different tone than on the recording.

I have the same problem. I think it's just the different settings on your camera. lol maybe try recording in the bathroom or where there is more of a echo, also I drink sum water before I sing and it helps to clear your throat more and sounds better. lol

Recorded vocals that you hear on your favorite albums have had A LOT of processing done on them by thousands of dollars worth of equipment, when a voice is left un-touched on a recording, it's 'dry'. Rarely if ever will you hear a 'dry' vocal track on a finished album. I'm assuming that you aren't doing any processing on your recordings? You can get free programs like Audacity to add reverb and things like that to your voice, failing that you can just send me over a sample of your singing in a format I can work with and I'll be happy to try and make it sound better for you. As long as it's in good pitch we should be good to go.
