Mixed number math

how would you do this:
8- 3 4/9 (mixed number)

First, make both numbers into improper fractions. Then, do your subtraction. Then, reduce the resulting improper fraction to a proper fraction.

ie:

7 - 4 4/7

7 = 49/7 4 = 28/7 4 4/7 = 32/7

now your question looks like

49/7 - 32/7
= 17/7

Now reduce :

17/7 = 2 3/7
