Okay. I own a PS3 and with all due respect to the other people who answered this question, ignore their answers. They obviously don't know what they're talking about in my opinion. YOU CAN ONLY PLAY PS2 GAMES ON THE 80gb PS3 SYSTEM.
You can also play PSone games on the 80gb also.

Yeah but u'll need a 4GB plug and at the main screen that shows browser and something else you push triangle, triangle square circle x. and that should automatically begin. I don't have PS3 games but I went on youtube and watched this one person do it. Maybe you should go on youtube and search 4 something like that. Hope that helped!!

It's true that only some PS3 are backwards compatible, but Sony recently announced that they are working on an update that would basically emulate a PS2 on your PS3 allowing any PS3 to play any PS2 game.

Well it depends. If you have a more recent PS3 than the likelyhood is no because recently Sony has stopped making their playstations backwards compatible (except the 80gb). However the other exception to thiis rule is the systems from the original launch like the 60 gb, which I own. Its backwards compatible with any playstation game other than the psp.

yes you can, but you can only play it on the 20GB, 60GB and the 80GB versions of the playstation 3. if you have a 40GB version you are screwed as it is not backward compatible.
