Pill + split condom = pregnant?

Hey guys,

Right girlfriend is on Pill, she says its the one where you have to take it within 12 hours of the same time each day. She takes it every morn at 7am but says she has slipped to 9am on some days. Have only had one condom where I know it split and that was more than a month ago (because it virtually drained itself), others that looked like they might have had water run into them only to find they are not. The only thing I wondered is if I have not allowed enough room in the tip, could it have been squeezed out of the base of the condom, but this seems unlikely as it is generally so tight I get a ring mark about 1mm deep all the way round.

Basically my question is if she is on the pill and some sperm has got past the condom how likely is it shes pregnant? She says shes put on some weight and feels like she might be, were going to the family planning clinc tonight where hopefully she'll get tested.

I read it was 99% effective when used perfectly, lol this is starting to sound not very effective...1 in 100. Just want some comforting or past experience from people really.

We cant tell you if she is or isnt... you just have to wait and see. There are sooooo many variables when it comes to a chick getting preg.

Okies, anyone had their partner/themselves got pregnant while on the pill?

Here are some symptoms

# missed menstrual period

# nausea

# extreme fatigue

# frequent urination

# tender breasts

# headache

# heartburn

# constipation

# spotting

# feeling faint

why dont you just buy a 4 dollar pregnancy test, no offense but I dont know why so many people come on here asking if there chick is pregnant when there is a walmart in every city... and I know that sounds kind of like a rude comment...but im not trying to be... just blunt I guess...

Nah I know mate, and we are getting a test tonight, I was just asking if anybody had been in the same situation. But obviously not. I know the symptoms and I know that there is an easy way to find out.

I suppose im asking if the pill is adequete as contraception on its own on a rare occasion?

Dunno why im bothering because I know its a weighted question and im just hoping someone would feel the same as me that there is no point in taking it if you get pregnant anyway.

I hear ya... id be worried to I guess, I just see a lot of preg questions... can you get preg from precum yada yada ... but now I see how you feel about the situation and I think to myself... hmm id be a little worried too if I never had done that before... ha ,... but I have HAD a steady girlfriend w/ out a condom for a while w/ out problems. As long as she doesn't forget the pill you have a pretty good chance you'll be in the clear. sorry bro for earlier.. to much programming & caffeine

what exactly do you want to know from other people who have been in that situation? because right now its very likely that im pregnant.. but this isnt the first scare I've had. one time I missed a pill and the condum broke right when my boyfriend was finishing and it all went inside me.. the only way to know is if she gets tested. do you know if you would keep it or not?

in the future you should run to the pharmacy and get the morning after pill... its cheap and effective within 78 hours www.morningafterpill...

Well went to the family planning clinic and shes not pregnant. Phew.

I really dont know what would happen if she was, before she mentioned abortion but this time she asked me about whether I would support her (I would). I dont want to be in the situation where I have to make that decision at all, it will mean choosing between the most important thing in my life and looking after number one. About to go to bed so I dont feel like typing an answer debating it now but it is very hard for me to think what I would do, I mean on one hand you have your life, your dreams and the other you have killing the beginings of a life, where you came from.

Yeah I considered getting the EC pill before, problem is when she is on the pill anyway and you are using a condom (although it split), it makes you think what was the point in her taking the pill she has to get EC anyway. If we do that she may aswell not bother with the pill. But I can see where your coming from, and if I happens again I will get it for her just for our nerves sake.

Use trojan.. never had one break in all my years...

I'm a girl and my experiences while being on the pill have been fine. It's a totally reliable form of contraception when used alone. So long as she's been using it everyday on a pretty fixed schedule, she should be fine. Birth control works by regulating your hormones so that your body doesn't produce or release an egg during/after your period. Missing one or two days isn't going to change how the pill works, just as long as you catch up with the pack. Reading the set of instructions that come with her birth control should probably make you feel a lot better. There's actually no real cause for concern unless she's completely skipped a few days, and then didnt resume taking them. I don't think you have much to worry about. Her weight gain could be explained by normal female bloating or water retention (we have problems with things like that sometimes). I think things will work out for you just fine... good luck.

p.s. Maybe your condoms keep breaking because they're too small. You might be better if you try a larger size. They shouldn't be so tight that they leave a deep mark after you take them off, and you should have enough space at the end so that you don't have to worry about it filling up and ripping.
