Divide the circumference of a circle by its diameter to get pi.

pi is an irrational number meaning that it can not be expressed as a ratio of whole numbers or as a terminating or repeating decimal. pi litterally goes on forever. The accuracy of your approxmiation of pi is only limited by your ability to measure or calculate it

22/7 or 3.14 is a handy approximation and 3.1416 is close enough for even high precision machinery.
