I don't know where you heard that you can't, because I had periods for over 30 years and it leaked plenty of times when I was asleep, which stained sheets, bedding and all, this can sometimes be embarrasing. So my best advice for this is, plan for leaks so that you can avoid if from happening. Either set an alarm or something to wake you during the night so that you can change (your pad, tampon whatever) or try using an overnight/heavy form of whichever you use. Good luck...

You have heard this because SOME women (typically those with lighter periods) do not leak during the night. The laying down position helps less blood flow escape, though if you have a heavy period it's still going to start leaking out. I know personally I don't leak much during the night, but have to be careful when I get up and put a new tampon right away or else everything from the night seems to flood out.

It depends on if your flow is heavy or not.

everyone leaks during their period, sleep with a tampon in and a pad so leaks will be small if any, but make sure to change your tampon in the morning otherwise you'll leak during the day sad
