People think my boyfriend is gay

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 1 month now. Things are going so well, I really like him and he is so sweet to me. My problem is that there are a few people (including a couple of my friends) who have suspicions that he may actually be a...

bit...gay. I am finding myself defending him all the time because I don't think he is gay. The reasons they suspect he is, is because he does a few things that people stereotype to be gay. For example (and this is a list of what other people suspect to be proof of his gayness), he gets regular manicures, he gets his chest and back waxed, he works as a hairdresser, he dresses very well and spends more time than I do clothes shopping. He is also very well spoken and pronounces all his words perfectly (don't think that's a 'gay' quality but some people seem to think so). He doesn't like to go to bars but prefers clubs, he has a lot of female friends, and he has a 'man bag' (those satchels that apparently only girls should use).

He has said to me that he would class himself as a 'metrosexual' (basically a straight guy who takes pride in his appearance and isn't embarassed) and he laughs off anyone who tries to say he is gay, because he knows he isn't. I was convinced that the people insulting him (not that being gay is a bad thing) were just jealous because he is successful and goodlooking and charming. But am I being naive...? I like him so much, I have never felt this way about anyone before. Is there anyone who knows of other metro men and is it fairly common..? Should I be at all worried or do I continue to ignore the immature people who try to bring him down?

Because as they say when there's smoke, there's fire. Here are a few good indicators to discover if your boyfriend is somebody else's girlfriend:

- The shifty eyes: When you two are walking in the mall or jogging in the park, it pays to watch your boyfriend's eyes. A lot of gay men who appreciate beauty of their liking, their eyes usually rest on a lot of the hot guys that come your way. Watch out though, this may just be his way of sizing the other men up, but if it comes with a wink, you know you're in for trouble.

- The Oprah quotes: Like everyone belonging in an exclusive group, gay people are proud of their own. So if his quotations keep coming from gay sources like Oscar Wilde, Alexander the Great and Allen Ginsberg, look out. He may just be a really educated man, when he quotes these individuals but when he starts quoting Oprah, be afraid-be very afraid.

- The over the top gay bashing: They say that those who most virulently bash gays and lesbians are in fact some of those that are most uncomfortable with their genders. Because they don't want to get caught, because of self loathing or a variety of other reasons, closeted gay men are some of the most extreme gay bashers of all. So if your boyfriend is overdoing the gay bashing, then he might be hiding a dark secret.
