Parakeet is sick. Please help ASAP!

My parakeet is acting very sick. Her mate looks and acts perfectly fine though. Her feathers look scraggly and today she has diarrhea. I don’t know what to do. There are no vets in my area that see birds. The nearest one is about 2 hours away and I don’t have air conditioning in my car. Please help! I’m really worried!!!

Answer #1

Is foam coming from her mouth?

An egg could be stuck inside her and causing her pain. I know this is difficult, but you need to get her to the vet ASAP. Are you sure the vet’s don’t have emergency numbers?

Answer #2

I agree with blueroses4433, im sure its due to age…because from how you describe caring for them you are taking good care of them. for now just relax, and call the vet in the morning…but if your still worried, try to look it up throuugh the internet. im sure yoou’ll find some solution…I’ll try and help.

Answer #3

She and her mate are rescues so I don’t know how old she is. The vets are closed today but I will call first thing tomorrow.

I feed her vita parakeet formula with eggcite nutrients added. I clean their cage out every other day or sometimes more often if it gets messy. I give them fresh water every morning and night.

Answer #4

how old is she? she might just be getting old. If she is fairly young, then you shud probably just make that two hour vet trip, or call the place. you can talk to a vet there, and tell them her symptons. you can also look up parakeet health online and her symptons will be described somewhere with treatment. good luck, I hope your bird gets better :)

What did you feed it?
