Parakeet help

can't really find another place to ask this so anyway...my grandpa'a parakeet has been really sweet when we got him, and unusually docile (but so were the other birds where we got him), and now suddenly he is so mean. he bites everyone, doesn't ever want to come out, and just sits there all day. we give him fresh bottle water everyday, fresh seed, fresh millet, fresh seed bar (fruit and veggie), and treats like bread or toast or veggies. what do you think is wrong with him?

He is probably sick of being in a cage. Try getting him a cage with more action going on. Like one of those big ones with lots of ropes, and swings for them to keep occupied. He is probably miserable, wouldnt you be, cooped up in a cage all day, with nothing to do but eat and drink? Think about it.

The parakeet may also be used to your grandpa caring for him. Now, there are other people around - that is upsetting to a bird. Birds get very attached to their main care-giver.

Hey there, okay birds especially of that specie form a bond with only one person and only one, usually a person that looks after it, and give the most attention. In this case it was your grand pa. By moving this bird to a different environment will cause it to start stressing because of the new environmental changes. Nothing will really help this bird, also take note that this bird might start feather plunging,

Suggestions try and move the bird into an area of the hose that’s more or less the same as at our grand fathers house, example – movement of people in that area, noise levels temperatures, etc.

Good luck, and send me mail if more questions.

well, we have a TON of things for him to do in his cage, he never really wants to come out of it (actually if he even sees it he'll make a run for it) we ALL give him equal care and attention, and he is in a spot by the window in the living room where he can be where the action is. any other ideas?

HAHA, nope Im all out. Why dont you go into Petco ( a pet store ) and ask one of the people that take care of the birds there. Or go to a library and do some research on parakeets.
Other than that no more thoughts,...
