in my opinion, there is no way to confront your fear AND prevent panic attacks, you will get them. You just have to keep going out your front door every day until the fear slowly fades, Confidence builds, and finally the panick attacks leave. but you have to try. then again theres always the easy way out and you can go to the doctors to get medication (I sware they have a pill for everything now). bbuutt.. the Healthier way would be the first thing I said. there is no better way to get over a fear then to confront it head on.
Go to the experts. LOL
There was a book that I encountered in the internet called 'Panic Away' by Joe Barry. Try reading it and APPLYING it. Good Luck.

Panic attacks
About 6 months ago I got mugged after walking my girlfriend home and because I didnt have anything on me they beat the **** out of me and about a week later I got confronted while shopping by one of the muggers brothers because his brother had a black eye from me. although he apologised when I explained I still have panic attacks every time I go out seeing as it happened just a few feet from my front door even though the people who did it havent been seen nearby since.
Is there any way to confront my fear and prevent my panic attacks as it is causing serious problems in my social life?
I Have tried to have this discussion with my friends and girlfriend but I feel like a fool so it somehow seems easier to tell complete strangers
