I'd say that she is an asset because her strengths and weakinesses compliment McCain's; where McCain is weak she is strong and vice versa. She appeals to a large portion of conservative voters without alienating the religious right..

Asset. My in-laws are very right-wing conservative Christian and they like her for her
family values and as my father-in-law says she's easy on the eyes.

I think the GOP thinks she is an asset. I think in the long run, she will be shown to be a liability. It will be Palin who loses independent and swing voters for mccain. Right now, she is a blank slate. Once she starts having to answer real questions, and goes up against Biden in the debates, she will lose a lot of credibility among those voters.
