Most artist work in different mediums. You can tell a print by the kind of paper it is on and it it was done by the artist it will be numbered. If he authorized 100 prints it will say in the corner 100/25 which will indicate that that was the 25th out of 100. If it is an original watercolor that was framed by the artist or by a gallery there should be something on the back of the picture to indicate this like a certificate of authenticity. You could take it to a gallery in your area and see what they say if you think it might be something of value. If they think it is a watercolor then it would be worth it to pay an appraiser to find it's value.
