each of these galaxies are determined by the distribution of matter and how gravity has influenced their formation. Their shapes are arrived at by the motion and arrangement of the matter in them. Irregular galaxies are created by explosions and collisions with other galaxies. While the smooth looking galaxies got that way by matter swirling and moving around the massive black holes at their centers. there are even clusters of galaxies bunched up together.
