Yes. It first happened in 7th grade and I still have the bone protusions on my right knee at 27 years old. The Doctor said just to not climb too many stairs (the tendon affected is most used in stair climbing type motion) so I would recommend a different method. It means the tendon is stronger than you bone and is actually pulling the bone out of your leg a bit at a time, enough for it to heal and become a bump. It eventually goes away, but untreated it can take years to leave.
