Should I try online dating?

I want to try online dating which I know isn't actual dating but its better than the guys I have here where I live, what do you think? should I try it out?

stephanief987... not all online dating is a 40 year old sex afender!!! My friend moved 1,100 miles away and one of her guy friends and I are dating... I talk to him on the phone.. and on cam.. my parents know his parents know and the have talked and agreed. I know what he looks like for real and I talk to his friends also.. I dont think he'd date me 7 months ( well tomorrow ) just to rape me.. I mean he is only 16 and can't even get to me yet. Also were waiting till were older to meet and I would bring my parents with me and I'm sure he'd bring his.. it's not like every siuation is going to be an online chat room with a random stranger with fake pictuers.

Girl if you want to date online go ahead.. I dont like anyone in my state either.. there all retarded.

Dont trust pictures alone.

Remember.. it's not easy with long-distance.. you can get pretty lonley.

No offense, but do you seriously have to ask?
Not very many people on here are going to tell you that online dating is okay, because its not. You have to be aware of all the predators on dating sites just waiting to scoop up another teenage girl. You may not think it will happen to you, but it can. Don't put yourself at risk like that, be smart. Don't be so impatient about dating, your time will come.

Ok, apparently everyone here has missed the last couple of years...
Actually a lot of people date online, and its not always long distance... infact now probably fewer people do the whole long distance thing...
it really is just another way to get to meet new people... even in your area...

Yes you have to be careful. meet in a crowded place, no home addresses till you meet, just basic common sense stuff...

Yes, online dating is a major part of our society right now. Some will call it the "fad" of our decade... and many will believe it as a new part of "courting" in our time, that will last forever.

The truth is, its there and many use it. It has brought some people together..
But it also has risks.

Stephanie was simply addressing the fact that even though it IS a major part of our society, there are risks! If you watch the news, there are always reports, of girls being victims of abuse, rape... or being killed- from people they met online. If you know how to be smart about dating online, then it could be a good thing.

But why take so many risks when you are so young, and there are still so many people you havent dated or met yet?

I didn't need your life story, all I was saying is there are pedifiles on those sites and there are risks. I wasn't in any way saying that every male on online dating sites is a predator.

online dating is huge in our society these days. I say definitely go for it. try meeting people on actual DATING sites though, like ash23 said, there are many stories on the news about really stupid 12-13 year old girls that get raped and killed because of people they met in sketchy chat rooms or on myspace..
