Is he trying to be a friend or more serious?

There is this guy that I had a major on going flirtation with. We then kinda you know went our seperate ways. Well now he is back and I dunno if he is just trying to be friends or what. If he is being a friend then I dunno if I want to be friends with an old flame... too difficult... I know I would fall for him again. If he wants to get more serious then I just dont know what to think about it except... NOT ready for anything serious
