I personally haven't experienced this similar problem, but I do have 2 cats that are over the age of 20. Is your cat experiencing any health problems or does she seem to always be tired (sleep all day or not very active as she used to)? If she is maybe you should take her to the vet and have her checked out. If not then it's more than likely maybe comforting to her to be by her scent or just plain comfortable to sleep on the kitty litter. Another thing that just popped into my mind is that she could be losing her sight or her sense of smell and doesn't realize she's lounging around in there.

animals have mood swings like how all living things do but you should take her to a vet just in case!

We lost our 21 yr old Calico girl last Sept. The week before she passed, she would lie in the cat box. I hope this is't the case for yours.

Good Luck

yeah not exactly but when my kitty got really old she would lay next to it and not move for days. it's like she just gave up, it was weird. I brought her food and water and for a few days she was ok and eating, but then the next day it was over. I'm sorry, but if it means anything I hope your kitty will be ok.

I work at an animal shelter an about half of them lay in their boxes. There is nothing wrong with them or any thing though.
