I'll vote for Obama. He's something my son sent me today. He says it pretty well, I think:

The fact that so many people turn their frustration with the political process into apathy has been the greatest triumph of the conservative movement of the last 30 years. Conservatives tell us government doesn't work; then they get elected and prove it; then they point to their failed government as a reason to re-elect them.

They want us to believe that real democracy, real equality, real justice are hogwash--things we can't really afford.

Who stands to gain when elections become trifles over meaningless issues? Who actually benefits from that? Here's who: the people who benefit enormously from the current economic status quo. As long as elections are about sex and fashion, they know their perch is safe.

The wealthiest 1 percent of Americans now control more of the country's wealth than at any time in the last 80 years. By some measures, the level of wealth concentration in the hands of the few (a.k.a. successful greed) is reaching Gilded Age levels.

And this is the main legacy of modern Republicanism. We are turning into an apartheid society, where gated communities of splendor stand next to desperate slums.

God forbid we ever apply the concept of democracy to our nation's wealth. God forbid we ever apply the Golden Rule to actual resources. The desire to prevent that from ever happening is what gets people like Dick Cheney up every morning.

Obama no doubt... McCain made a dumb choice on picking that woman. Palin or whatever her name is, I thought it was quite funny once I heard about this choice.

So he chose a woman b/c obama didn't choose hilary? HA that's hilarious, and he chose her because she's pretty probably. Here's some things he's forgotten...

The dude is like 72 years old, once he dies he's going to have palin, a woman whom has had 2 years of political experience... Oh this is hilarious, she's for abstinence and against abortion. But announces that her 17 year old daughter is pregnant... Wow, that just made the win easier for Obama, she's not married, so therefore she isn't abstinent, and of course she doesn't want the baby but she has to have it because she's against abortion so you know... She has to have it... Dumb choice by McCain.

I'm tired of hearing all this crap about Obama being muslim and a terrorist, and him being black... He's not muslim, he's christian, he's not a terrorist so why even bother bringing that up? He's Bi-racial, okay so get over that fact none of this is true and quit bringing it up to make mccain look good, when all you're really doing is making him look foolish.

Just because Obama feels that it's a womans choice to wheter or not she can have an abortion doesn't mean he has a sick mind.

And yes he is Christian, he goes to a Christian church.

McSame cheated on his first wife. for a younger woman.
McSame calls his wife a cu*t.
Palin doesn't think that schools need to teach sex education, and guess what? Her daughters pregnant.

okay, if I had to pick I'd pick Obama. But I'm really not loving the choices.

We got McCain, he was a POW in Vietnam and I respect that, but theres no way you can walk away from two years of totrure in some unknown jungle without it taking SOME type of psychological toll on you. And I think we can all agree that mental issues are the LAST thing we want in the White House right now.

I'm partial to Obama, but he can NOT pull us out of war. And believe me, I was against the war as much as anybody else, but now that we've meddled ourselves in, we can't just walk away. Their government is entirely unstable. It'll be like Vietnam II.

So, basically feel like moving to Canada, they never get any issues like this.

I'll go for McCain. Mainly because I don't want my already small paycheck getting cut in half with Obama's taxes. Seriously, atleast 40% will go to the government if he gets into office. But I don't have to worry about that. And Palin wasn't a bad choice. McCain is now going to get more of the female vote. Especially from more rural towns. Men and women alike. Like Cindy McCain said, John has picked a reform-minded, hockey-mommin', basketball-shooting, moose-hunting, salmon-fishing, pistol-packing mother of five for vice president. Haha. That one cracks me up.

camtheman91, I wouldn't argue with you about matters of opinion, but your statement about taxing your already small paycheck is just not true...unless your checks add up to about $200,000 per year. Check it out.

McCain, atleast he has some sense of foreign policy, although I like some of Obama's views, I believe he is still lacks the understanding of our current situation. My husband is currently serving in Iraq and I believe Obama's goal of pulling out of this war will be a mistake, we have started something that must be finished. We cant just decide we are done and run out.

Totally undecided!

Camppapa – Thought provoking response. Exactly how will Obama apply democracy to our nation’s wealth and the Golden Rule to our actual resources?

Vanhalen618 – I am tired of the crap already too. Obama no doubt you say. Give me some concrete reasons. What will he accomplish that gives me a reason to support him?

Soldiersprincess and tattersallmafia – Profitable businesses become such by making decisions to stop producing products or services that are not profitable. As tax payers we are all paying a great deal to be in this war. As citizens, we have sacrificed many lives. You have a much closer picture of this war, so I appreciate your input. How is this war profitable to us monetarily or socially? Why do you think we should stay in this war? What do you think we lose by quitting?

McCain supporters are definitive in their choices – confident without explanation. So what makes you so sure McCain is the best candidate?

Neither political party gets my automatic vote so you have a chance to influence my decision. Perhaps this should have been a question instead of an answer, but you asked us to “speak your mind.” This is where my mind is now and I look forward to all of your input.

georgenneatwaggem, my response is more about what I believe than what Obama has proposed. He doesn't go as far as I would in many areas, but he comes the closest of those running.

Starting with democracy and wealth: There are many (multi-billionaires like Warren Buffet, not the least among them) who believe that an economy that allows individuals to become super mega-rich puts democracy at risk. Wealth equals power and that much power in the hand of an elite few overwhelms the institutions of the nation...legislative bodies, courts, etc.. One proposed solution of progressives is to establish a marginal tax rate that effectively caps the wealth that one person can accumulate. The level at which such a rate would apply could be set at a point that would let a person own all the houses he or she could use, fly in private jets, and live a life of luxury...but it would prevent the development what what we're seeing now in the US...an increasing gap between the very richest and the middle class. We're starting to look like some Latin American country.

As for the Golden Rule and our national resourses: I happen to be a Methodist - but people of many other persuasions would agree - and the Methodist Discipline says,

We believe that Christian faith denies to any person or group of persons exclusive and arbitrary control of any other part of the created universe. Socially and culturally conditioned ownership of property is, therefore, to be considered a responsibility to God.

I believe that's true and I believe that our laws and institutions ought to help prevent us from hurting each other through abuse of property...especially natural resources. Our government is predicated on the notion that it ought to ...promote the general welfare and provide for the common defense.... We've gone way too far in promoting the welfare of the few and using our military might to defend the right of those few to build wealth and control resourses.

That's me, speaking my mind. It's a great country, ain't it?
