I have friends and family members who have given me good counsel at times and bad counsel at other times. People sometimes speak with wisdom and other times fall very short. Does that mean we should disown them all? I think not.
For the record, I listened to Rev. Wright's words in context and, while I may not agree with every point, I understand what he was saying and I appreciate his point. This is a whole lot of hype over nothing.
Seems to me if you genuinely believe for 20 years he did not notice / figure out what was coming from that pulpit - how can one come to the conclusion as President he would have the ability and awareness to recognize bad judgement right in front of him, execute due diligence, and be able to accutely discern matters - doesn't reflect effective Leadership abilities at all.
amblessed, did you even listen to Obama's speech? He never said he didn't notice, he said he never heard those particular comments that were being played all over the media. He said he heard many things he disagreed with, and he told him so.
Why are so many white people are surprised that a black man is angry in this country?
Are you saying that Obama should disown every person who he has a very close relationship because he disagrees with them at times.
This is nothing but race baiting coming from the right, and people like you feed right into it.
It is dispiciple.
Here's the real issue at hand. the religious right is in fear of losing their grip on the political system. george w. bush used the religious right to get into power, and now that he's been, well, george w. bush, even they are disillusioned with him. but in this election, so many other segments of society are rallying behind other candidates, and the RR no longer has a man in the race. see how many of them hate mccain? so they will raise the banner of religion to galvinize their voting block. this issue with obama's pastor, or rather the reaction to it, is what all this is about.
amblessed, I have been a member on this site for less than 20 minutes and I am amazed by the propaganda you try to spread. what I can't figure out is if you are truly unaware or purposely trying to mislead.
jimahl is correct obama did NOT deny hearing rev. wright's statements.
just as rev. wright did not say "God-Damn America" he said "God damn America"
taken within the complete context of his sermons, there is NOTHING that the rev. wright has said that is ANY worse than what rev. falwell or pat robertson stated after sept. 11.
I refresh your memory
'I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'' Fellow evangelist Pat Robertson concurred with his sentiment.
Thanks for your input - but the timeline I had indicated he initially stated he was not present for any of the examples mentioned - then, the other night he said "Was I present any of those times, I was" - if I'm mistaken, I apologize, besides it doesn't matter to me and if you believe he has demonstrated good judgement, Great !...Have a great weekend !!
He said he was not present at the god damn america sermon, and others that were going around utube. What he said he was there for were sermons where Wright said controversial and inflamatory comments that he disagreed with. So far Obama has shown much more judgement than McCain. At least he has rejected the comments by Wright. McCain embraces his religious zealots, like Hagee and Parsley.
So yes you were mistaken, and apology accepted.

Do you think Obama is in serious trouble because of his Pastor or do you think people will think beyond his pastor comments and on to real issues? I do not think it is going to be easy for Obama from here on. People in US are not that intelligent when it comes to voting. Remember Bush was elected for his second term by using fear of terrorist attack! McCain is trying to do the same.
