Number 3 key on laptop- £ symbol instead of #

i love this picture. Asked by fairytales 2 months ago, 2 answers.

When I press the shift key followed by the number 3 key on my laptop, instead of the number symbol (#), I get the pound symbol instead. (£) Why is that? And is there some way to get my number symbol back?
