Atheist means they don't believe in a God.

I have a religion, but I'm also an atheist - the Buddhist religion has no God.

Maybe, but not necessarily.
It's more likely that they mean to say they are confused or unsure about religion.

no, not necessarily, atheist only means that you don't believe in a deity (I.e. a god). like itchi pointed out you can still have a different religion.

Usually it means they are atheist, but not always. When someone asks me what my religion is, I say I was raised catholic, but no longer have a religion. I usually don't say that I am an atheist, because atheism is not a religion.

no not always. Atheist means that they dont believe in god. if you believe in god at least then you are considered a Christian
then there are all those other things like Luthren and Catholic. those are actual religions

I believe she meant that when people find out whether or not you believe in God that they assume you are christian, and then she was pointing out that there are other religions like Lutherans and Catholics that you could be, just like if they find out you dont belive in God that you are an Athiest, when theres numerous things you can be.

Gosh everything has to be disected for you or what?

Yeah, I think she's just a little confused. Christian means that you believe Jesus Christ was the son of God (or IS God in all those other forms of Christianity that I don't know much about. Feel free to educate me if you do.)

But Judaism is one example of believing in God but is not Christianity.

***I believe she meant that when people find out whether or not you believe in God that they assume you are christian***

Your explanation only invalidates it further. You can't ASSUME on behalf of people you don't know. And further still; you can't assume people will assume something. Why would you assume a person would assume a belief in god denotes christian faith; when there are far more NON-christians in the world, than christians?

***and then she was pointing out that there are other religions like Lutherans and Catholics that you could be***

AGAIN... those are DENOMINATIONS... Christianity is the RELIGION.

***just like if they find out you dont belive in God that you are an Athiest***

Uhhh... no... there are still OTHER gods a person can believe in besides 'God'

***Gosh everything has to be disected for you or what?***

Its simple... say what you mean, and know what you're talking about. If you don't, you'll be corrected by someone who DOES know. Deal with it...

Atheists are people who don't believe in 'God' or any other specific deities.

***she was pointing out that there are other religions like Lutherans and Catholics that you could be***

Lutheran and Catholicism are denominations of Christianity. Think about it:

All three believe in Christ.
All three follow the bible.

They are all branches off the same tree. It's their interpretations that make them slightly different from each other.

***Gosh everything has to be disected for you or what?***

Your rudeness in comments like this one seem to draw attention to the fact that these topics are way over your head, and you're simply too immature to discuss them properly. I suggest keeping a civil tongue in your head and ditching the teenage attitude problem- that way you might be able to give the impression that you can, in fact, *contribute* to threads.

LMAO. WOW,
thats great,
you go ahead and put that advisor badge on like you're a f*ckin cop and
do your power trip like no other!

Do ME a favor, and ill stop posting teenage attitude-problemed posts when you get off your high horse and stop acting like this site means anything in your life!

God I PRAY I dont end up like you, where my biggest accomplishment in life is badmouthing a 17 year old girl on a bullsh*t advice thread and earning an advisory spot. and simultaniosly feeling empowered as I press the
post button.

And CaptainAssasin, I do believe that religous assumption is what this whole thread is about, is it not? The original asked if you dont believe in God or have no religion does that make you an Athiest? and the asnwer is NO, they probably ASKED this question in the relation to the confusion they get after assuming that if you dont have a religion you are an Athiest, and I was saying in my first post that, Ashley was pointing out that just because someone doesnt believe in God doesnt mean they are an Athiest, just like you cannot assume if someone does believe in God, that means they are Christian. DO YOU GET IT NOW? or do I have to further explain myself and this other girl to get on your level of comprehension?

being without religion usually means they dont follow a religion (like christianity, muslim, jewish etc.) they might believe in a god but not in the teachings of a religion

***God I PRAY I dont end up like you, where my biggest accomplishment in life is badmouthing a 17 year old girl on a bullsh*t advice thread and earning an advisory spot. and simultaniosly feeling empowered as I press the

you cannot press THIS button kyra112, for one I've seen some of your posts which frankly are immature and offensive you might be 17 but you cant use it as an excuse for people not to say something you dont like to you

age doesnt matter here

secondly just because someone is an advisor doesnt mean they do it to you because they feel empowered, I could right now, but I wont bother and im not an advisor

@CA she does have a point, you tendency to pick on small errors is kinda annoying to people...

oh and yeah, I infiltrated myself into the debate :P

lets goooOOO!!!

You're missing the point...I believe this is WAY over your head. Gor read captain assasin's answer AGAIN...you seem to have missed the point he made about you can't assume what she means.

Oh and from now on...leave the religious discussions to the grown ups.

oh and captain...informer might have a point...you may want to look into that.
