Sony has some very nice LCD TVs, and they are cheaper than they were last year. If you shop around though & buy an 'off brand' that's less well known just make sure you buy at a reputable retailer like best buy or fry's that will have a good warranty for peace of mind.
re: Heavenly sword, it's a bit risque, in my opinion, for an 11 year old...I watched the preview movie, but didn't get the game, as I don't have enough time to play Assassin's creed or Lair, both of which are pretty good PS3 games.
like many who have answered the question I would choose a sony all day they are mint wy not get your son a ps3 as well the graphics are amazing.
Actually Gateway has a 30 inch super HD Monitor called XHD3000 480p up to 1600p. Thats better than any 1080p TV out there . It supports single and dual link DVI, HDMI, 6 USB 2.0 ports (for vid over usb).

Heavenly sword was one of the best games I've ever played. There are monster like bosses that might scare your 11 year old. The game is very entertaining.
