New guitar.

I'm looking for a good Bass Guitar for a beginner. I've only played an acoustic guiatr and I want to play a Bass but I want to know a godd brand for someone who isn't very experienced but I don't want some peice of junk. Okay here's the criteria:
1. Needs to be a Bass
2.Needs to be cheap
3.NOT a heap of junk
4. Good sound

I'm mostly looking for guitar cause my g/f's dad like the guitar and I got to impress him, he already hates me. XP

my first bass was a silvertone, I've been playin around ten years, it was a starter bass, but it was real nice, the jack recently shorted but thats good over 8 years for a starter bass, plenty of time to get a new one
