Benefits of the Pill
Because this type of birth control works by taking just one pill everyday, many women find it to be an easy and efficient way to prevent pregnancy. Both types of pills will cause a woman to have lighter and shorter periods as well as fewer menstrual cramps. Some of the reported advantages of the combination pill include:
Help with acne problems
Easing of PMS symptoms
Protection against ovarian cancer as well as endometrial cancer
Negative Effects of Birth Control Pills
Because this is a hormonal method of birth control, there can be some unwanted side effects. Side effects of birth control pills include:
Spotting
Increased headaches
Mood changes
Breast tenderness
Additionally, combination birth control pill side effects include depression, decrease in libido and weight gain. It is also important to note that the birth control pill does not offer any protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
Along with these side effects, using the birth control pill can lead to some serious health complications. Since the amount of hormones contained in the pills have been lowered, these complications have become more rare but they are still serious health risks that you need to be aware of. Complications include:
Blood clot in the legs, lungs, heart or brain
High blood pressure
Liver tumors (very rare)
Gallstones (very rare)
Jaundice (very rare)
Combination pill users as well as smokers, women with disorders that put them at increased risk for heart attack and women who are over the age of 35 have an increased risk of these complications. There is also some disagreement as to whether or not using the birth control pill increases your risk of cervical cancer. Some experts believe it does while others do not. Moreover, it was also believed that using the Pill could increase your risk of breast cancer. However, current research does not show any correlation between using oral contraceptives and the development of breast cancer.
Women who currently have or who have had kidney, liver or adrenal gland disease should avoid using Yasmin birth control pills. This birth control pills brand contains a particular type of synthetic progestin that has been shown to raise a person’s potassium levels, which could potentially cause severe heart problems among other things.
Efficiency
With perfect use, the birth control pill can be as much as 99% effective. However, perfect use means remembering to take the Pill everyday at the same time and to be in good health, under the age of 35 and a nonsmoker. With typical use, the average failure rate is between 3 and 13% per year, depending on the type of pill you are taking.
Certain factors can decrease the efficiency of the contraceptive pill, though. These factors include:
Taking antibiotics
Taking certain medications, include oral vaginal infection medication, certain anti-seizure drugs and certain HIV drugs
Having diarrhea or vomiting
Taking St. John's Wort
Taking Orlistat (not confirmed)
The birth control pill is not recommended for women who smoke, have certain health conditions or are over the age of 35

I'm a person who absolutely swears by the pill- it's one of the best things that's ever happened to me!
When you get your prescription, the medicine should come with a sheet of side effects. I usually do a bit of research before I take anything, so I know what I'm in for. So I looked at the side effects of my pills, and they seemed pretty manageable. My biggest worry was blood clots, but your doctor should do a blood test before you start on the pill, and he'll take your blood pressure every 3-6 months, just to make sure there are no problems.
I remember when I first went on it, I was worried too. I was thinking 'Oh my gosh, my parents/friends are going to think I'm sleeping around and stuff!'- the good thing is, you take it once a day. So you can take it at night before bed, and none of your friends need to know unless you tell them. Your parents... well, you don't even need to tell them. When I told mine, they weren't worried. They were more pleased that it was going to help with cleaning up my face, and boosting my confidence.
Now, in the first month, I found my acne did get a bit worse- that's normal, your body is adjusting to the hormones. It gets better from there. You still have to wash your face regularly and things like that, but you do notice more of a difference. It also reduces the scarring, which is a real bonus!
All the best with it- if you want to discuss it further, feel free to funmail me
I was on the pill before I ever had sex. It sounds scary, but it's benefits really outway any side effects or stigmas. Give it a try. Besides if you really want to go on Acutane, you have to go on the pill. Life will be grand in 6 months!
I Fine the pill claers up your skin,

What does birth control do to your body?
Send me Fun Mail
Alright, so I am actually planning to go on Accutane because I am tired of my acne not being able to go away, since I've basically tried everything you can imagine. So I went to my doctor about two weeks ago, and they said that they're putting me on Accutane finally, but I can't go on it until January, because I was on another pill for my acne, and I have to stop that until I take Accutane.
Well, then my doctor said I have to go on Birth Control also, so it will clear up my skin and I can't start it until I get my period, which I haven' t got yet.So once again, it's for my skin, not because I'm having sex, which I'm not doing. So here's the thing - I am really afraid to take Birth Control, but I have to take it so my skin will clear up.If anyone here has been on it before, what does it to do your body.I've heard that you have fewer periods and all, but what else? Any side effects?
Thanks, all would be appreciated.
